On Nov. 15-17, Kansas City entrepreneurs and other innovators will gather at Kansas City Community College’s technical education center for the eighth annual Startup Weekend. If you’ve got a business idea, this is your time to shine.
Startup Weekend Kansas City will be hosted as part of the fourth annual Global Startup Battle. Participants will pitch their business ideas, form teams, and then from there it’s a “54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation,” according to the event’s website. The weekend will end with the teams presenting their ideas to local entrepreneurs for a chance to get some feedback and maybe a prize.
If you’ve got an idea, Startup Weekend is your chance to become an entrepreneur. Most participants pitch ideas about tech startups, but all ideas for startups are encouraged, as long as the startup is still in the idea-stage and does not currently exist.
While the prizes for the winners haven’t been announced yet, according to the event’s website, “We believe each attendee will leave with the overwhelming sense that Kansas City is a place of opportunity, where there is enough drive and ability to launch any venture. Each team will depart with enough direction and new connections to take their business beyond the weekend. In past events, outstanding teams were awarded various prizes like office space to help build their business, legal services, marketing packages, PR packages and of course pretty electronic toys.”
Tickets are $80 per person and $50 dollars for students (use promo code, “STUDENT”) and may be purchased online here. This cost will primarily cover seven meals and drinks during the event. According to the website, everyone organizing Startup Weekend Kansas City is a volunteer.
