Go Code Colorado Brings Developers and Entrepreneurs to Create Apps and Businesses using Colorado’s Public Data

The 2017 Go Code Colorado challenge is right around the corner. Go Code Colorado has taken place each of the last four years and brings together entrepreneurs, business partners, and developers to create apps and launch businesses that solve a problem. According to Confluence Denver, on February 1, the state will announce the goal of this year’s challenge at the Golden Triangle Galvanize.

Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams will kick off the event which is set to feature thought leaders from across the state who will discuss the latest happenings in the technology and innovation sectors. According to the Denver Business Journal, Williams is leveraging the challenge as a part of his plan to make public data more accessible to the business community. Williams is also hoping that business owners and leaders can create all sorts of innovative ways to harness the newfound wealth of public data.

Go Code Colorado will take place in five cities across the Centennial State, including Colorado Springs, Denver, Durango, Fort Collins and Grand Junction. Then, two winning teams from each location will have the opportunity to meet in Boulder for a weekend where they will rub shoulders with the most talented developers, entrepreneurs and other tech leaders from Colorado to share insight and creativity. Finally, in May, the top three teams will attend a gala in Denver where they will be awarded $25,000 to move forward with launching their app or business.

The philosophy behind the challenge is that while the government is able to collect massive amounts of data, that data is only as good as the purpose it’s used for. It’s up to Colorado’s tech community to deliver innovative ways to make use of the data.
