I’m Joseph Tummon, and I’m from Galway, Ireland. Last August, I made the move to Denver with my girlfriend Ella, looking to experience something new and hopefully find an opportunity to work and gain some experience in an American software company.
After the usual stressful highs and lows of a job search and some failed applications, I came across 27Global. From the initial phone calls, everyone I talked to felt welcoming and personable. I could tell early on, even from my interview process, that this was a company that struck a rare balance, big enough to have solid structure and large teams, but still small enough to feel tight-knit and personal.
I joined 27Global as a software consultant intern, and from the start, I was encouraged to jump in and get involved. The team gave me time to earn certifications like the Professional Scrum Master and AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, and more importantly, let me apply these in my work and hit the ground running, and get hands-on in my first week.
I became part of a large project focused on revamping a legacy web application, a new build that still needed to run alongside the previous version. This, of course, presented all sorts of challenges, from dealing with authentication and data migration to making sure users had a smooth experience switching between old and new systems. It was interesting to watch how a professional team both approached and worked through a large project. 27Global had a clear methodology, and seeing it applied to break down large tasks into smaller, manageable pieces gave the project a more linear and structured workflow..
One of the best parts of my time here was getting to work directly with our client. I joined product conversations, helped refine the backlog, wrote tickets, and followed those all the way through implementation. I tested a lot of the platform and spent time working with the database to ensure data was clean, formatted correctly, and flowing properly across both systems.
A project of this size naturally came with bumps in the road. But for me, it was valuable to see how the team handled those challenges, how they kept everything moving forward without letting one issue block progress. With multiple consultants and dev teams involved, once everyone’s up to speed, work starts to move fast. There’s a strong emphasis on identifying and squashing blockers early—no band-aid solutions—so the team can keep humming along without losing momentum.
“Joseph’s approach to our work started with his first phone call to our office seeking a position. His initiative and bias for action, combined with his technical skills, quickly made an impact on our projects. We can’t wait to see where he goes – the sky is the limit.” – Patrick Kinne, VP
Beyond the day-to-day, the people at 27Global made a big impression on me. I had the chance to travel to Kansas for the Tet party in January, and it was nice to see how connected the team was, even across different offices. In Denver, we had plenty of after-work outings, and I especially enjoyed the company ski day, definitely not something I ever expected coming from Ireland!

Even though my title said “intern”, it never really felt that way. I was trusted with real responsibility from the get-go, and this only increased as the weeks and months went by. That trust meant a lot, and it speaks to the kind of culture 27Global has built.
From landing in Denver to wrapping up in June, this internship has been an amazing ride. I’ve learned a ton, made great connections, and had experiences I’ll never forget. I’m grateful to everyone at 27Global for making it so worthwhile, and for giving me the chance to hit the ground running in the U.S. tech world.
