Modernizing Commission Payouts
ABOUT THE CLIENT
A nationally-recognized leader in the wealth management space with over $200B in assets under management and a rapidly expanding footprint. The firm combines the strength of a large institution, offering an integrated suite of financial services, including investment management, financial planning, tax strategy, estate planning, and insurance solutions, with the personalized approach of a boutique advisory.
OPPORTUNITY – Overcome manual, error-prone payouts process
Managing commission payouts for employees had become a bottleneck for the client—one that exposed their operations to inefficiency and risk. The process was manual, error-prone, and heavily dependent on pulling disparate reports from Salesforce and Orion, applying complicated spreadsheet logic, and reconciling outputs by hand. Not only did this slow down operations, but it also introduced the potential for human error and created a reliance on institutional knowledge that wasn’t easily transferable. Recognizing the risk to scalability and accuracy, the client turned to 27Global to build a smarter, future-ready solution.
SOLUTION – Cloud-native, configurable system + dynamic rule engine
27Global partnered closely with client stakeholders to deeply understand operational pain points and design a system that would not just replace—but radically transform—the commission payout process.
Initially envisioned as a static set of hard-coded rules, the project evolved significantly during discovery. 27Global recommended— and the client agreed—to expand the project scope and budget to build a flexible, future-proof architecture. This bold pivot ultimately enabled the client to scale the platform in lockstep with their rapid growth, avoiding a costly rework down the line.
The resulting platform is a cloud-native, highly configurable system built around a dynamic rule engine. It integrates seamlessly with Salesforce and Orion, automating complex calculations and ensuring every commission payout is accurate, transparent, and traceable. Administrators are now empowered to manage and update payout rules flexibly—without needing developer support.
Additionally, 27Global built a secure employee portal, giving employees real-time access to detailed breakdowns of their payouts and career units. The solution is secured through Azure Entra and aligns with the client’s broader enterprise architecture vision, ensuring robust identity management and access control. Using Aspose, the platform generates end-user-friendly PDF statements, available for download or on-demand review. Additional technical highlights/features included:
Fully Customizable Rule Engine for Business Agility – Rather than hard-coding payout scenarios, 27Global engineered a flexible, dynamic rule engine. This empowers administrators to configure and adjust payout rules independently, future-proofing the platform as business needs evolve.
Performance Optimization at Scale – By integrating Application Performance Monitoring (APM) and Azure App Insights, 27Global fine-tuned the platform to handle millions of rule validations per run—without bottlenecks. Even at scale, performance stayed within stringent SLAs.
Encouraging Data Stewardship Through Visibility – Automation unveiled discrepancies in Salesforce data that previously went unnoticed. By linking payout accuracy directly to source data, the new system naturally encouraged better data hygiene and greater accountability across departments.
Seamless Identity Integration – Azure Entra synchronization with Paycom created a unified employee identity framework across platforms.
Expanded Platform Scope – Modules to track grants and purchases were added, eliminating additional, manual spreadsheet processes.
Enhanced Interdepartmental Alignment – Role-based access control gave key departments real-time visibility into payouts, improving operational coordination and reducing work.
RESULTS – an integrated, rule-based solution for automated payouts
The modernized commission payout platform built by 27Global delivered transformative business value for the firm. By replacing manual spreadsheets with automated processes, the firm dramatically reduced payout cycle time—from hours to mere minutes—while significantly improving financial accuracy, eliminating costly errors, and enhancing data integrity.
Real-time commission visibility and intuitive reporting empowered faster, better-informed executive decision-making, reinforcing strategic alignment and operational oversight. Ultimately, the adaptable, scalable architecture established by 27Global transformed a previously cumbersome process into a strategic advantage, positioning the client for sustained growth and ongoing agility.
